When I was a small girl, Mother's Day used to stress me out something big! I really appreciated everything my mom did for me and I just didn't think that there was anything I could do that would tell her exactly how much. Somehow the handmade tissue paper roses just didn't seem enough and my dad never took me to the store to shop for Mother's Day... so they (along with a handmade card) would have to do. My mom always said that she loved them, and I guess she did because she still has them in the same little vase on her curio.
When I became a mom I remember telling Mike that when the kids were old enough, that it was his responsibility to help them pick out a card or a small gift for me so that they wouldn't feel the stress that I had felt at their age.
This year is the first year that the kids would be on their own since Mike and I are now separated. Surprisingly, he did take them to the store the week before Mother's Day and let them pick out cards. He even drove over to the house early Sunday morning and dropped off flowers for them to give to me which was very sweet.
Austin and Savannah got up early that morning and fixed frozen waffles (which Austin burned - the boy takes after his momma!) and yesterday's cold coffee. They brought it to me in bed along with the flowers from the front door, suncatchers that they had made with my mom the day before and the cards they had both bought and made.
I'll tell ya... burnt waffles and stale coffee never tasted so good.
Mother's Day was over 23 minutes after I woke up. (Someone had to clean the syrup off the floor!) And before the last plate was washed both kids were asking when Kid's Day was!
Um, yeah... it's tomorrow and the next day, and the next day...

8 things...
about me you may not know...
1.) I had Cat Scratch Fever once in college. (Toxoplasmosis for you medical types.)
2.) I have a large scar on my left arm from pulling a pot of hot cooking oil on top of me as a child.
3.) I used to work in a toy store.
4.) I wore braces on my teeth for four years.
5.) I sold a piece of original artwork to the University of Florida.
6.) I am missing many of my lower eyelashes on my right eye from having surgery to remove skin cancer.
7.) I have an unhealthy obsession with a certain bass player in a certain 80's band. (OK... everyone knows that!)
8.) There is nothing I hate more than snakes. (See the thin line between hate and fear?)
is the song Cat Scratch Fever still stuck in your head?
